Description:
The training workshop of the Pond Photo-Biological Reactors Designs imparts an approach to designing this specialized reactor such that the medium of biological reactions are fully contained within a defined reaction region, in drawing from the established principles of engineering science.

The design approach begins with a general elicitation of the factors impacting the dynamics of this class of reactors, and evolves a pond-technology design approach based on careful cost analysis together with some design changes that specifically mitigate the well-documented sources of high primary costs of algae growth processes consisting of the energy costs of pumping the fluid into separation processes, provisioning of carbon dioxide, and the cost of nutrients, and of course, coupled with the other inefficiencies characterizing algae pond technology. Consequentially the training focuses on developing design approaches addressing the impacting-factor in the configuration of a pond photo-biological reactor in the abstract.

In essence, the Design Training focuses heavily on three factors: Optics engineering with the objective that the intensity/luminance of the light on the alga-cells could be effectively controlled as necessary without any adverse effect on the growth of the cells, The design and implementation of fluid flow patterns, The reflection of the role of the metabolic reactions rate expressions in performance analysis. The focus of the Training on these factors have the object of proffering specialized enough approach to address every algae species, recognizing the sources of the differences between the algae species: Structural forms, Physical and Behavioural dynamics, The species-specificity of the anabolic reactions; and indeed, the matter of structural forms is addressed through the construct of the rate expression adopted in the Mass Transfer Equation of the Biological Reactor Design Equations, the physical and behavioural dynamics are addressed through the design and implementation of the Fluid Flow patterns, and the anabolic reactions differences are intrinsically reflected through the cellular reaction rate expressions.

The Training Workshop subsequently focuses on the basic sizing of the reactor, evaluating the size based on the commercial objects of profitability, and then properly dimensions the reactor in terms of the standard three-dimensional measure.

Finally the operating conditions are extracted from the experimental variables, otherwise observations, that provide the general information of the design, while simultaneously supporting the evaluation of the operating conditions on the chemical and biological sciences of the overall biological reactions.

In further elucidation of the Workshop approach, a pond-retrofit engineering approach is developed and applied to redesign any contemporary pond, transforming such pond operation into a form that is consistent with the operational characteristic of a Photo-Biological Reactors Design standards.
